Adelsteen Normann & John Banting

Adelsteen Normann and John Banting both had a few pieces of artwork exhibited at Leeds Art Gallery, both artists are unique and use different techniques.

Adelsteen Normann (1848-1918) was a Norwegian painter who worked in Berlin, Germany, although his paintings were inspired by the landscapes of Norway.  His work had been exhibited in many countries including Oslo, Berlin, London, Vienna, Düsseldorf, Munich and Paris.

John Banting  (1902-1972) was born in Chelsea, London.  At the age of 18 John created drawings and poems under the influence of Vorticism (a short modernist movement).  During the 1930s, whilst John was in Paris, he became drawn to surrealism and he contributed to the International Exhibition of Surrealism in 1936.  He continued to travel to many different countries as he carried on with his surrealism.  John's work involves bright colours, shapes and texture.
