Damien Hirst

Damien Hirst is a contemporary artist born in Bristol, UK (1965).  Hirst graduated from Goldsmith College, London in 1989.  Hirst has had many exhibition all over the World and is the richest living artist in the World.  His current exhibition is at the Tate Modern, London (well it starts tomorrow).

I found out about Hirst when I visited Leeds Art Gallery.  There was a spot painting he had done there and I thought the colour palette was beautiful.

Hirst produces paintings and sculptures just like other artists but he also has work which shows how real life is, he brings nature into an art gallery.  Hirst has always enjoyed doing what he shouldn't do in art.  There is a peculiar one called 'A Thousand Years' which involves a cows head with a gazillion of flies around it.  Although 'In and Out Of Love' which involves the life of butterflies which is seen in a room in the art gallery, a much more beautiful scene and something people would enjoy.

Strangely enough there was a documentary last night on Channel 4 about Damien Hirst, you will be able to catch up on Channel 4 online in case you didn't watch it. It tells you a lot more about his works of art and how he did them.
