Emma Bridgewater

It's Follow Friday!

Emma Bridgewater, a designer who grew up in Oxford originally set out with an English Literature Degree, although her first job was working for Muir & Osbourne within the knitwear department.  After experiencing design she soon decided to work for herself and attended the Top Drawer Trade Show, which is when she met Matthew, not knowing back then that he was her husband-to-be.  Matthew designed bespoke furniture, stationery and also had many watercolour paintings.  Matthew now collaborates designing with Emma, as well as writing several illustrative books on architecture and Norfolk which is where they spent most of their married life.

The company which is named 'Emma Bridgewater' started in Stoke-on-Trent, proudly known as The Potteries.  Here, she discovered pottery and worked with it to try to get all the pieces right.  She then experimented with forgotten decorative techniques for the pottery designs.  Once she has some samples, she showed them to a collection of buyers and has become successful ever since.  Emma's main focus is pottery and textiles around the kitchen as her mother's bright, patterned and mismatched pots kitchen is where she had her inspiration from.

You can also find Emma on Facebook and follow her on Twitter @EmmaBridgewater

I discovered Emma Bridgewater at a garden center on our way back home from our travels, there are lots of other textiles, pottery, home decor there by other designers as well as plants and flowers.  They have a little cafe there too for a spot of lunch.

There is also another store in Macclesfield.
